The photographer was born in Harlem in 1924 and grew up in Brooklyn in very humble surroundings. After interruptions due to the war – which he admits gave him a creative impulse – Jerome took Bauhaus-influenced courses at Brooklyn College, where he was particularly inspired by the work of the documentary photographer Walter Rosenblum.
