Higher Pitch’s ART SELLS exhibition. Bringing a bit of art to the advertising world in Cannes

Higher Pitch, the company behind the art in advertising exhibition, ART SELLS, held it’s latest exhibition in Cannes. The exhibition took place on Wednesday June 20th from 2pm- 8pm, during the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival, held at a prominent location on the Boulevard de la Croisette a stone’s throw away from the Palais des Festivals.

Higher Pitch was founded in 2010 in answer to the call for a need for a creative outlet in the advertising industry. Their exhibition ART SELLS 2011 showed the works of art of 60 advertising professionals from all over the world and was attended by more than 600 people in the industry in the heart of East London’s creative community. Their last exhibition was held in Cannes during the International Advertising Festival 2012. Higher Pitch would not exist if it were not for the artists who work in advertising and submit their true creative talents.

This was the first time Higher Pitch founders Mel Fong Brown and Suzie Quill invited judges to help collaborate in the selection of the artwork that will be displayed in the exhibition. The guest judges:

Anthony Burrill is a renowned graphic artist commissioned by cultural, social and commercial clients around the world from New York, to London to Tokyo.

Lee Sharrock is Director of Lee Sharrock PR Ltd., Global Creative PR for Saatchi & Saatchi, and promotes and curates for individual galleries, artists and institutions.

Daniel Bergmann is Managing Director of the hugely successful and respected London-based international production company, Stink.

Mel Fong-Brown, co-founder of Higher Pitch and Marketing Director at Absolute Post, says: 'We were so thrilled to have our guest judges helping us select the most exciting pieces of art to come out of the advertising industry so far this year. They each brought their own perspective, style and reasoning to the selection process, which made for a truly fascinating exhibition.'

This year the exhibition’s call for entries asked for nominations instead of personal submissions because they really wanted to encourage peer support of the art that advertising professionals create outside of their day jobs.

Suzie Quill, co-founder of Higher Pitch and Art Director at Saatchi & Saatchi, says: 'While this exhibition is on a smaller scale to last year’s show in East London, with only 11 selected artists, the collection was still varied and inspiring. Most importantly it was truly revealing and celebrated the hidden artistic talent that can so easily go un-seen in the advertising industry.'

All forms of artwork were nominated from sculpture, painting, film, writing, design, photography, a collection of urban wooden toys, literally anything that represents and celebrates the incredible talent and art in advertising. Year after year, Higher Pitch’s exhibitions grow in talent and momentum and so does its supporters. They were thrilled to receive backing from other like-minded industry folk who want support what they are doing.

The following companies were involved with this year’s exhibition: Absolute Post, Annex, Bartle Bogle Hegarty, Cap Gun Collective, HomeCorp, Ellery PR, File FX, Finish, Hagon, Mamma Team, Marshall Street Editors, Powell Communications, Saatchi & Saatchi, Short Films, Shots, Stink & Tangerine.
