Kudlek van der Grinten Galerie, Cologne : Adam Jeppesen - Wake

The Cologne-based gallery presents WAKE by Adam Jeppesen. The photos were realized on his assignment travels as a cameraman for Danish television, and document the artist’s view of his world.

His large format work is in keeping with the tradition of German Documentary Photography. As the title suggests, the shots are of the fleeting moments between darkness and twilight – people, objects, places, colours, … all of these merge before our eyes. The pictures, we think we can see, aren’t necessarily those which Adam shows us.

His photos neither depict constructed sets nor any other type of manipulation. His object of artistic desire is reality. The motifs oscillate between landscapes and interiors, often atmospheric and pregnant with meaning in calm and timeless settings. He discovered his motifs in Japan, Iceland, Denmark and the United States, amongst other places.

Adam Jeppesen was born in 1978, Kalundborg, Denmark and commutes between London and Copenhagen. His work-related travels take him all over the world, for example to Palestine, Liberia and Sierra Leone. His work has already been displayed at the Galerie Hornbæk and the Peter Lav Gallery in Europe. In addition to this, his photos have also been displayed at Scandinavia House in New York and at Tilykke Lille Fugl, Fleisher Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia. Wake is his first monograph.
