World famous pop artist Edward Ruscha is the must-see testimonial of the Polaroid campaign in the current 'Band of Outsiders' label’s look book.
The photographs were taken in and around Ruscha's studio in Culver City, California. Born in 1937, Omaha, Nebraska, the US-American painter, graphic designer, photographer and filmmaker has Bohemian-German roots on his father’s side and Irish-German roots on this mother's.
In 2001, Edward Ruscha was appointed a member of the Department of Art at the American Academy of Arts and Letters (Washington Heights, NY). In 2005, he represented the United States at the 51. Biennale in Venice and in 2006 he was awarded the Culture Award of the German Gesellschaft for Photographie (DGPh).
Scott Sternberg, autodidact and award-winning designer of the LA label 'Band of Outsiders' (founded in 2004) describes the shoot for the spring/summer 2012 look book as follows: “just having fun with the idea of Ed killing time at his studio, procrastinating, screwing around, not making work.”
Scott was born in Dayton/Ohio. He takes his inspiration from films and music from the 1970s. One particularly quirky fact: his women’s wear line is called BOY – a reinterpretation of menswear for women.
Pretty cool Mr. Sternberg.
