GoSee Tip : Melvin Sokolsky and his Archive of Full Shots - the star photographer's opulent photo book and exhibition in Paris

Melvin Sokolsky is a fashion photographer – after all, he spent three quarters of his photographic career shooting editorials and campaigns for Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and the New York Times. However, he never wanted to distinguish between individual categories, he always wanted the ‘full shot’.

His pictures are extraordinary and often surreal. He photographs fashion and models in abstract surroundings and situations, he is famed for his ‘Bubble Series’, which saw him shoot models floating in huge Plexiglas baubles.

Melvin Sokolsky was born in New York City in 1938 and has been taking photographs since he was ten years old. He works as a freelance photographer and director.

The Acte 2 Gallery in Paris presents ‘Archive’ – an exhibition of his work until 8 January 2011. The fantastic book of the same title can be purchased with or without original prints and definitely belongs under everyone’s well-stocked Christmas tree!
