During the half-time show of the Superbowl 2012 on the 5th of February 2012 in Indianapolis, USA, the show guests and millions of viewers, all around the world, had the pleasure of watching the 'Queen of Pop' at work – dressed in a killer style by GIVENCHY. Riccardo Tisci designed all of the outfits and it was the first time that the super-star Madonna performed at the SuperBowl.
During the show, the outfits were changed 'live' on stage – starting with a entirely hand-ornamented golden cape and ending with the unveiling of a short mini skirt with a hand-riveted belt and a richly adorned black coat, finishing off the three part costume.
‘Following my collaboration with Madonna on her last tour three years ago, it is a great honour for me to be a part of yet another historical and iconic moment. People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna. I am so happy that, after being busy in other scenes, she decided to go back on a music stage. Not only to bring us Music, but also to make such a statement of Performance and Fashion.’ Riccardo Tisci.
If you take a look at the sketches of the looks, the question comes to mind how 'big' Madonna is according to his opinion? We have not seen the long legs in the outfit, only that the belt was more or less located directly under her bust – is this taking high-waisted looks to a new level?
Be that as it may – for 12 minutes, the couture was subjected to yoga, bouncing, jumping and aerobics, plus music of course: some of her biggest hits (Vogue, Music, Express Yourself) were part of the set list as well as the debut of her newest single 'Give me all your luving' with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.
And yes, even Madonna has to pay her dues when it comes to age. But how fiercely she fights against the merciless advance of time… R.E.S.P.E.C.T Madgey!
