De mi barrio a tu barrio - Urban Heartbeat. Our GoSee favourite globetrotter Jim Avignon on tour for Goethe
At the beginning of the year artist Jim Avignon set off with DJ and video artist Alicia Zamora from Nicaragua and spent five weeks travelling to main cities in Central America and the Caribbean to create large-scale street art with local artists.
Kingston, San José, Panamá, Santo Domingo, Guatemala, Managua and Port of Spain were the stops on the street art tour, organised by the Goethe Institute Mexico at the world famous Muralismo and many other sights in the public space.
The project brought together various people in street art – and also added more colour to the everyday life of many an urban dweller. For example, Jim Avignon’s colourful work was brought back to life (as reported by GoSee). We just simply don’t miss out on anything.
From the 27th of July until the 18th of August, Jim Avignon will present the project together with Holger Beier at the Neurotitan Gallery (Neurotitan shop & gallery, im Haus Schwarzenberg, Rosenthaler Straße 39, 10178 Berlin) as a multimedia exhibition. Photos and exhibitions as well as originally involved artists will talk about the artistic, politic and interpersonal aspects of the tour, as well as the impressive trip itself.
The book of the tour will also be presented, introducing the locations and artists, as well as their works. The Central cinema will present a film series of contributions from Central America and the Caribbean.
And in keeping with the tradition, there will of course also be an exciting opening party.
