GoSee loves ..."Sometimes farmers are more beautiful than models." Dutch-Artist-in-Residence Louise te Poele with 'Farmers' and 'B.O.Y.S.' at Schloss Ringenberg
Actually, Louise te Poele specialises in fashion photography, it is her profession and pays the bills. But just like her studies, which lead her from fashion to art, she opts for artistic approaches when it comes to her freelance projects. The results: The ‘Farmers’ and ‘B.O.Y.S.’ series.
“Sometimes I think the farmers are more beautiful”, says Louise; an interesting theory. One that we would like to inspect a bit closer indeed, just like her exaggerated pictures.
The Dutch photographer captures people – not models – with weathered skin, deep wrinkles and distinct facial features in everyday situations for her ‘Farmers’ and ‘B.O.Y.S.’ series.
However, she does not create journalistic documentaries, but rips her protagonists out of their respective contexts, emphasizes the colours and constructs an uber-reality that literally jumps out of the picture and hits us straight in the eye.
Until the 5th of July, the artist will be the ‘Dutch-Artist-in-Residence’ at Schloss Ringenberg, where both her freelance projects are currently on display too.
Louise te Poele was born in 1984 in Winterswijk, briefly studied Fashion Design in Arnheim but quickly transferred to the Fine Art department.
Her works have already been exhibited in Amsterdam, France and Germany. She won the Raymond and Weil Special Members Award in 2010. She was also amongst the 20 finalists of the SCREENings Awards powered by GoSee in 2011.
D’Jonge Hand and ArtEZ Press published a book of ‘Farmers’. In general, Louise prefers to photograph her models backstage or at after parties rather than while they are posing and acting.
“I’d like to go to London to work on it, because I’ve noticed lots of the models I like come from London.”
We will most certainly keep an eye out for her and until then, we will gladly let the picture book mesmerise our senses.
