marsil recommendation : illu12 – the largest illustrator festival in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia
Their tools are fine pens and colours, their secret is their (almost unlimited) imagination, their success (alas more often than not) the joy of the viewer: illustrators.
This career is ancient and has managed to survive from cave paintings to the covers of high-gloss magazines and it keeps reinventing itself on a daily basis. Books, comics and cartoons, packaging, fashion and logos – nothing is safe from the creative grasp of the illustrators.
It is time for a personal get-together during the illu12 in Cologne from Friday the 20th of April to Sunday the 22nd of April. The event will take place at DQE Cologne – Ehrenfeld, the largest illustrator festival in NRW to date.
43 professional illustrators from advertising illustration, freelance illustration, editorial and product illustration, comic and children's book – the illustration scene from Cologne and the surrounding areas introduces itself to the wider public for the first time.
Entry is free and the visitors can expect to get an impression of the illustrators' work through exhibitions, lectures, discussion panels, live drawings, drawing workshops for kids and the illu-market.
The event is part of the ten-year anniversary celebration on the founding of the illustrators-organisation, the professional organisation for German-speaking illustrators.
Including: Christian Barthold, Sarah Burrini, Matthias Derenbach, Lorna Egan, Jojo Ensslin, Max Fiedler, Wolfgang Freund, Julia Gruner, Elke Hanisch, Thomas Haubold, Lars Henkel, Heike Herold or Antje Herzog (among others).
