Paris Photo 2008 : Sato Shintaro "Tokyo Twilight Zone" & book signing

From 13.11. until 16.11.2008, PARIS PHOTO will take place at the Carrousel du Louvre, which is this year dedicated to Japanese photography.

We would like to introduce Japanese artist Sato Shintaro, who has spent several years capturing the pulsating city and its skylines. The cityscape is quite limited, its houses and apartment blocks stand side by side continuously. The streets are crowded with the latest architecture alongside old buildings.

There is a transitional time when dusk fades into night, when manmade and natural light intermingle with each other. When viewed from a certain height, not too low but not too high, it illuminates commercial areas blended with residential areas where people go about their daily business. Sato calls this midway time and space the "Twilight Zone”. "The time when the new creeps in and the old fades away in a simultaneous slow dance is when the ever-ambiguous city is at its best," says Sato. His work depicts the maintained exquisite balance combined with the existence of people in the city.

Sato Shintaro, born in Tokyo, 1969 graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography in 1992 and spent the ensuing three years studying Arts and Sciences at Waseda University. He has worked as a freelance photographer since 2002. He has already had several solo exhibitions: "Night Lights" Konica Plaza (Tokyo 1995), "Fire Escapes Tokyo" Gallery Le Deco (Tokyo 2004) and the latest, "Twilight Zone" series at the Photo Gallery International.

If you can’t make it to Paris and consequently miss out on personally meeting the artist over there, then we recommend you order a copy of "TOKYO TWILIGHT ZONE" (ISBN: 978-4-86152-155-3 C0072), published by Seigensha Art Publishing.
