Porsche Award 2011. Five winners at the Student Film Award at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg

On the 3rd of November 2011, the jury announced the winners of the international newcomer award for advertising film students. The quality of the advertising films was so good this year, that – apart from cash prizes of 3.911, 2,911 and 1,911 Euros as well as the special prize of 911 Euro – even a 500 Euro prize was awarded in addition to the others.

Jury members Michael M. Maschke (Head of the jury), Saatchi & Saatchi, Frankfurt; Lyndy Stout, Shots, London; John Spary, John Spary Associates, London and Jan Dressler, stink, Berlin all agreed that it was challenging to make a final decision.

The two film academy spots ‘We Miss You’ and ‘Exorcist’ engaged in a head-to-head race for the 1st place and the 3,911 Euros. Yet, the 'Exorcist' ad film for the Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner brand by Andreas Roth managed to snatch the victory in the end. Hanna-Maria Heidrich is still pleased, despite the near-victory, having come in 2nd place and bagging the 2,911 Euro prize money.

This year, Andreas Roth was the only German director to be part of the international edition of the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase and also won (together with Hanna-Maria Heidrich) the Young Director Award in the 'European Film School' category.

Christian 'Milo' Mielmann, also from the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, managed to land third place and secure 1,911 Euro for his ‘What Ever Happened’ spot. The special prize, endowed with 911 Euro, is usually awarded to an ad film from abroad: this year, Adam Wallenstein from The National Film School of Denmark received the award for ‘A Little Less Gravity’.

Furthermore, the jury was so impressed with the work of Filmakademie-student Justus Becker, they awarded him a special award of 500 Euro and a 'honourable mention' for the 'Diner' motif from the 'An Ode to Women' trilogy. The campaign tells of the basic capacity of human beings to make decisions in seemingly hopeless situations by using the fates of three women as an example.

And to top it all off, all winners also took home a massive trophy in the shape of a metal slingshot.
