Russel James guest stars at recom Berlin. Icons exhibition in cooperation with Camera Work celebrates its private view on 3 December

Russell James has had them all: Scarlett Johansson, Gisele Bündchen, Heidi Klum – to name but a few. The fashion and celebrity photographer rose to fame in the 1990s and his list of clients includes Vogue, Marie Claire and Victoria’s Secret. Now, Recom Berlin and Camera Work are excited to present a selection of his works.

The featured series has explicitly been produced for the market beyond high gloss magazines. The Australian composes his landscapes, interiors and subjects with a playful approach to distance and closeness.

As such, he turns the kitschy Heidi Klum dream into a wildly surreal cavewoman, both alienating yet not distorted by any means. His pictures convey a symbiosis of his aesthetic and a little moment of privacy captured from the subject.
