Videonale 12 : festival for video art at Kunstmuseum Bonn - exhibition with catalogue and tour
A picture collage made out of high gloss magazines develops into a mystical vision of life and coincidence – dark, macabre and elegant at the same time: The video of Aline Bouvy and John Gillis from Brussels is one of 43 selected pieces, on show at the VIDEONALE 12 until the 26th of April 2009 at the Kunstmuseum Bonn.
In the selection process, 1,445 contemporary video works from 74 countries were screened by the six head strong jury. Via a special exhibition, the VIDEONALE also throws some light on her 25-year old history. Curators Susanne Hinrichs and Georg Elben chose on opus from all bygone VIDEONALE competitions, which represents the respective competition year. The historical works will be paired with a contemporary video of a current artist.
The VIDEONALE, e. e.V. - founded 1984 in Bonn – hosts the world's oldest video festivals. Since then the festival has burgeoned and developed into an authoritative institution for contemporary video art. Since 2004, the VIDEONALE makes use of the alternating exhibition rooms of the Kunstmuseum Bonn and constitutes a substantial cultural contribution to the video pioneers from the Ingrid Oppenheim bestowal, who – being an art collector and patron of the late 1970s – lay down the foundations of what the VIDEONALE is today.
On Occasion of the VIDEONALE 12, a bilingual catalogue, featuring images of the exhibited works, academic essays and a DVD, which included most of the videos featured at the VIDEONALE, will be published.
Through the “Videonale on Tour”, the Videonale has been showing their programme following the conclusion of the exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Bonn at various institutions over the last few years. For the Videonale 12, exhibitions and presentations will be held in Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Florence, Nicosia, Glasgow, Poznan and Odessa. More under www.videonale.org.
