“Christian Dior and Chinese Artists” - Quentin Shih
Alongside a further 20 photographers, Quentin Shih (a.k.a Shi Xiaofan) is presenting his work at the Dior & Contemporary Chinese Artists exhibition in the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) in Peking. The exhibition will be opening its doors on 16 December and will run until 15 January 2009. As the name suggests, all artists have worked exclusively with CHRISTIAN DIOR material. For example a Lady Dior bag made by Li Song Song is on show, as well as a huge portrait of Galliano by Zhang Dali. A who’s who of the Chinese art scene, including Zhang Xiaogang and Wang Du, will be presented.
In the exhibition, Quentin will present 20 photos in an editorial, titled "The Stranger In The Glass Box", which confronts the Dior look behind glass, with the fashion of the 70s and 80s in the People’s Republic of China. French elegance meets Chinese purism. The photos will be on show in a 190cm x 112cm format and available for purchase in an edition of 8 copies.
The exhibition will include videos, photography, painting, sculptures and installations, as well as motifs from the DIOR archives, as in both Christian Dior and John Galliano, the latter of which has designed for the couture house since 1997.
