Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair - gloomy avant-garde collections between art and variety
If Charlie Chaplin wants to be a gloomy punk and wrap his girlfriend in plisee, it is avant-garde. If a collection is inspired by the art of Jeanne Claude & Christo it is fashion. The same applies to Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair.
A lot has happened since Astrid Olsson and Lee Cotter founded the label in 2004. Starting out with knit and jersey merchandise for the female clientele, the label now encompasses an elaborate line-up for both sexes. And not just in Sweden, but also in Japan, the US, Moscow and Hong Kong.
The name is the game and derived from an old shoemaker shop in London. The credo, not limited to footwear, is to continue the tradition of craftsmanship. The focus lies on draping, by which silhouettes are created in a similar way to sculptures.
Textiles, like dark illusions, constructed around the body. The experimental variations, which are only made to order, contrast the basic range. The pieces, sporting fine details, always remaining a classic black, white or grey, never get boring. Additional muted tones replenish the cycle on a seasonal basis.
The upcoming autumn collection is dedicated to the sad simper. To the melancholy artist – the clown. Just like those, who constantly try to hide their sadness, the label shows its theatrical side in indefinable colours and folded forms within its clothes.
Want to find out if you are also a friend of a minimal cubism ? An impression of the collection is available here at GoSee. More can be found at www.shoerepair.se
