Kron by Kronkron - Icelandic shoe creations inspired by the Avant-Garde, Moulin Rouge and Mickey Mouse

Iceland admirers know that there is more to this country than volcanic rock, especially when it comes to culture. A great example of this is the Kron by KronKron shoe label: the design has classic elements, avant-garde, colourful, wonderfully detailed and unique.

Hugrún Árnadóttir and Magni Þorsteinsson have worked together since the turn of the century. In 2008, they founded their young designer shop KronKron as a creative extension to their shoe label of the same name. The shoe creations are designed in Iceland and exclusively produced in the Spanish town of Elda.

There is a long story behind why they chose Kron as their label’s name. Once upon a time, well a while ago anyhow, there was a supermarket called Kron and it was the only one in the whole of Reykjavik. Since its closure in 1990, it became awfully quiet and the elaborate choice of goods was nowhere to be found. In 2000, Hugrún and Magni put a stop to the silence and founded the new Kron, which has become one of the capital’s most important shoe shops.

Excellent design thrives on and with excellent presentation. Saga Sig, a London-based photographer who also happens to come from Iceland, shot the look book images of the Autumn/Winter collection. Her photos have completed the image of the shoe label we are bound to see and hear more from in the future.
