Simon Ekrelius : Stardust - the Swedish designer's Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection
Simon Ekrelius is one of ELLE Japan's most interesting designers. His designs and style are famed for their coolness and his look book is stunning. Whilst this statement may be considered rather flattering, it is still quite limited when it comes to describing what the talented Swede has to offer. Futurist tradition is one of these features.
Swedish fashion photographer Jenni Porkka captured the autumn / winter collection 2010/11 using impressive imagery – we like. Stylist Vincent Oliviere took care of the set, whilst art director Sasha Rainbow was responsible for the production.
The collection breathes through the unique balance of its opposites. The fabrics, permeated with shadows, seem to be made of black and silver gunpowder, making it difficult to identify their silky origin. The cuts are fierce with harsh determination, the emphasis distinct and transparent.
The only hint of accent between the cosmic inspirations is a sunny yellow, which is repeated sporadically. The combined headpieces resemble old Russian traditions. So are we talking about an avant-garde space Babushka ? Nope, Simon Ekrelius is anything but mundane.
The designer grew up in Stockholm where he studied fashion design, art history and illustration. He graduated with an award from the Swedish SIFA competition. He founded his couture label in 1998 with a ready-to-wear line following up in 2006.
Today he lives and works in London. He presented his ‘Stardust’ collection at On|Off during London Fashion Week. What more is there to say ? The mesmerising energy of his collections speaks for itself and his extraordinary talent.
