1st Unit : a recommendation for everyone that Christmas gives the creeps - 'We Are the Night' - in cinemas now!

Not everyone is looking forward to the Christmas. Bank holidays, sentimentality, calm – simply unbearable without supplies of alcohol and snacks should boredom attack.

Since the end of October, director Dennis Gansel has been supplying us with a rather different kind of attack. His new film 'We Are the Night' is a German vampire shocker indeed, with an unusual cast, Nina Hoss and Karoline Herfurth.

Dennis states: “Vampirefilm? In Germany? Yes, that is what many people initially thought, this is why it took us 14 years to make it happen. The vampire hype of recent times is a curse and a blessing at the same time.

It is a given that every director wants to be the first to hit the cinemas with a specific kind of film (the first preparations for the film took place six years before the release of the Twilight novels), yet without the recent renaissance of the genre, we would still be stuck in production.”

By the end of last year, the filming for 'We Are the Night' took place in Berlin and Brandenburg. The well-tested 'Welle' (The Wave) team behind the camera and the cast of Karoline Herfurth, Nina Hoss, Jennifer Ulrich, Anna Fischer, Arved Birnbaum and Max Riemelt.

Dennis: “The perfect cast and I am very happy about it. I approached Nina Hoss for the role back in February 1999 and asked her to keep her diary free for autumn. It was autumn after all but ten years on . . .”

The story: 20-year-old LENA from Berlin (Karoline Herfurth) manages to get by with petty theft. On a nocturnal escapade, she meets LOUISE (Nina Hoss), who is hundreds of years old, in an illegal club.

The glamorous phantom is the owner of the club and at the same time the leader of a female vampire trio, including the elegant CHARLOTTE (Jennifer Ulrich) and the wicked NOTA (Anna Fischer). Louise falls in love with the rugged Lena and takes a bite in the very first night. From then on, Lena experiences the curse and blessing of her new, eternal life. She enjoys the luxury, the parties, the endless freedom, but soon her lust for blood and murderous nature troubles her new friends.

When the Berlin police force, led by inspector TOM SERNER (Max Riemelt), is hot on the heels of the women, the snare slowly draws tighter around the murdering trio and the events that follow go completely off the rails.
