ADC Festival 2012 - Frankfurt, the global city of banks, famous sausages and advertising. A Rolf Scheider exclusive for GoSee
From May 11th to May 13th, the advertising industry gathered at the third consecutive ADC FESTIVAL 2012 in Frankfurt; one of the largest and most important events for German creatives.
Chef and restaurateur Arthur Potts Dawson won the audience over with his lecture, Michael M. Maschke presented the NGDS 2012 and ad agency WerbeWeischer displayed their 3D cube with matching 3D glasses for three-dimensional advertising - all this was displayed alongside the exhibited ad creations.
Special guests and important participants were invited to the V.I.P. Carée of the FrankfurtRheinMain marketing association, where frankfurters and plenty of meat and drink were served. This turned out to be a great opportunity to establish contacts in a relaxed setting.
ADC presidential member Jochen Rädeker commented at the press conference: ‘most marketing communication is junk, therefore only the crème de la crème will be honoured.’
The president of the Jury Professor Dr. Hartmut Esslinger, who not only wears really fashionable socks, but also happens to be largely responsible for Apple’s success, reckoned that Germans are too well-behaved in general and advertisers mostly a funny-crowd that is not eager enough.
Anyways, 338 jurors (all members of ADC) cast their votes and 7.8 % of the total 6,600 entries were honoured with the coveted nails. 128 bronze, 77 silver and 19 gold nails were awarded on Saturday night by presenter Michel Abdollahi in a fast paced awards ceremony. This year’s Grand Prix and most coveted award went to ‘The CNN Ecosphere’ by the HEIMAT, Berlin agency. For more details on the winners and campaigns go to: www.ADC.de
This year advertisers were dressed to the nines; men in black suits, women in couture-dresses and matching high heels. ‘…Less fucked up than in previous years’, observed Rolf Schneider, in his usual straight talking manner.
After the awards ceremony the party at the fairground hall needed some time to get going. Still, only a few drinks were needed for guests to stay until the early hours. Once again, this was also in keeping with the traditions of previous years…
The successful ADC brunch at Studio Funk rounded off the festival schedule. Whether or not everybody is going to meet again next year is still uncertain. According to the dean of ADC, Hamburg applied as next year’s event venue but Frankfurt is still fighting for the title of ‘advertising capital for one weekend’.
As the saying goes: where there’s money, there’s a way. The ADC slogan of 2012 is ‘ideas are the money of tomorrow’. We are very curious to hear the urgently required ‘ADC-Gold-Idea’… Watch the video coverage of Rolf Schneider and his team live from the event now on GoSee. We would like to say: ‘Thank you, Rolf’.
