Dance, dance for your lives - a film for Pina Bausch by Wim Wenders, trailer on GoSee

The 'PINA' documentary film by Wim Wenders, about the Pina Bausch dance theatre will be screening in cinemas in 3D from February onwards and will be part of the 61st Berlinale competition.

“So far, the two dimensional cinema screen”, explains Wim Wenders “has not been able, neither emotionally nor aesthetically, to do justice to Pina Bausch's work. When I saw her dance theatre for the first time, 25 years ago, I was deeply moved and enchanted. She taught me to completely reinterpret and relearn my notions of human motion, gesticulation and emotions. It is this very magic that I want to transport to the silver screen and 3D gives us the opportunity to take the audience directly onto the stage, into the midst of the creative energy.”

Producer Gian-Piero Ringel: “Until now, there have not been a lot of alternative offerings for 3D cinema. 3D is still developed under mainstream commercial considerations. We expect Pina to be a 3D art house film with great potential – Wim Wenders on direction, choreographies by Pina Bausch († 2009), the presentation of the Wuppertal dance theatre and stereography by Alain Derobe all guarantee for an artistically sophisticated film which will set new standards for 3D.”

Congratulations to Wim, Gian and the new Roadmovies and of course PICTORION.

From 1973 to 2009, Pina has been the artistic director of the Wuppertal dance theatre and create unique and ground breaking choreographies, which extended and reformulated the existing language of dance. Countless plays became legendary successes and are still being produced as sold-out guest performances all over the world.

The following plays are included in PINA: CAFÉ MÜLLER (Première 1978), DAS FRÜHLINGSOPFER (UA 1975) VOLLMOND (UA 2006), KONTAKTHOF (UA 1978).

The 61st International film festival Berlin will take place from the 10th to the 20th of February 2011. For more information, check out the official PINA website www.pina-film.de and PINA's facebook fan page.
