Small business gets an official day - the new award-winning holiday sponsored by AMERICAN EXPRESS
Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Father’s Day, Easter, Christmas …. The wheel has to keep turning. And to make sure that the ‘wheel’ doesn’t just turn for big business, American Express has generously named a new holiday: Small Business Day, which hopes to provide small shops with a healthy turnover on at least one day during the holiday season. And now for the bad news: we like it.
The celebratory day for the small fish was started in 2010 – in 2011 it was revamped with the added bonus of a Digital Kit. This comprises a YouTube video maker to help you make several ads, a Facebook page builder and the opportunity of providing online deals with Foursquare. Foursquare is a location themed social network, which mainly works as a software for smartphones. Half a million shops took up the tempting offer.
Consumers that registered their AmEx on FB and supported a participating retailer received 25 Dollars of store credit. AmEx took it a step further: they looked for politicians to support their campaign. Locally and nationally. And also in Cannes.
The creatives at Crispin Porter + Bogusky and Digitas found some very open eyes and ears: their great campaign received the Grand Prix in the Promo & Activation Lions category.
