IPURO the poetry of scent - Stephan Nau wins the KATAPULT 2009 Award for promising young professional photographers

Stephan Nau is the winner of the Katapult 2009 Award - for promising young professional photographers. His impressive entry convinced the panel comprising Oliver Lebkücher and Thomas Hobein of the Wolkenkratzer agency, as well as Bernd Sumalowitsch of selected views.

Stephan Nau, graduate designer, specialising in photography and advertising, has a background of drawing and painting, which is clearly reflected in his winning piece. His portfolio may have less of a technical use of shapes, but all the more animated, staged faces and scenes. Photography we love!

The photo stems from the ‘ipuro’ commercial, his graduate piece, which saw the completion of his Communication Design studies in Wiesbaden last year. His idea was rooted in the visualisation of the poetry of scent.

The challenge was to transform a product with a generic product use into an emotion using the creation of added value, though a unique set made up of imagination, association and images. Stephan realised the spot using a pixel process. This provided the product with an abstract, artistic character, which connects with its surroundings.
