If you take a look into director Kai SEHR's overly relaxed eyes, you might think that it probably pays off to go down the straightforward path sometimes at least. Kai, who usually works in the music department, knows how to combine many different things into a coherent project.
Something that might become clearer if you consider his unusual background. Hence, the biography on his own site reads as follows: ".....spending his early years skateboarding and listening to punk rock music. He worked as a nurse in a private institution for the mentally ill before moving to Los Angeles". What else to do but to settle for the rather disturbing world of advertising?
Just to avoid confusion, he studied feature film of course, at the American Film Institute (AFI) to be precise. The unmatched combination of autodidact-supervisor and studied creative with punk in his veins turned out to be an irresistible one for clients such as BMW, BURGER KING, BUD LIGHT.
His first long film, the feature documentary 'Skateistan – Four Wheels and a board in Kabul' received the Cinema for Peace Award as the ‘Most Valuable Documentary Of The Year’ at the Berlinale 2011.
He also calls two golden lions from Cannes his own, just like Gold from Montreaux and several awards from the Art Director Clubs in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. We are happy to show his spots 'Fernweh' for Grönemeyer, the Skateistan trailer and the ‘Snow’ spot for BMW X3 here on GoSee.
