Telemaz Commercials : the new OTTO spot takes us to Bilbao airport
An OTTO production was to be realised around the corner in Bilbao, Spain. Usually this would have been no problem – only Iceland got in the way, or should we say its volcano ash cloud to be precise.
What would have normally been a relaxed two-hour flight from Hamburg – Bilbao in the production chart turned out to be a cross-country car odyssey for director Matthäus Bussmann and his team.
And since there was a flight ban in Spain, compliments to the post – the short plane cameo was of course added on later using a computer.
Bilbao airport is an international airport in the North of the Iberian peninsula, which particularly serves inland flights. A new terminal was built in 2000– designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, it is shaped like a flying dove.
Bilbao is famed for the Guggenheim Museum and for Sir Norman Foster’s great minimalist metro line. These two buildings have almost single-handedly managed to revive the surrounding rusty industrial area and its one million inhabitants. The Bilbaínos are so proud of their transport links that they lovingly christened them ‘Fosteritos’ – a love declaration to Sir Norman.
The agency was Kolle Rebbe, the production was supervised by Telemaz Commercials Hamburg with director Matthäus Bussmann and DoP Pascal WALDER c/o 1ST UNIT. Susanne Kreyenfeld took care of the summery styling.
