The UK Cannes Report live from the Croisette by Pippa Bhatt. Plus the ‘Three little pigs’ winners/adverts for the Guardian and ‘The Bear’ for Canal+

Cannes is in the South of France. However, it is worth noting that only one language is spoken. No, not German. No, not French. English is the number one. Brits, Americans, Australians, Canadians. Followed by Indians, Brazilians, Scandinavians, … a global, sometimes somewhat jargon-speaking advertising hub. Denglish, Frenglish, Inglish.

And it is in this very context that we would like to draw your attention to a video. ‘Three little pigs’ for The Guardian newspaper, UK. Yes we think it is a coincidence that the pigs are centre stage once again (see Chipotle). The three squealers were awarded Gold and almost landed the Grand Prix.

Furthermore, The Guardian has been the UK Representative for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity since 2009. And we also heard the widespread discussion of alleged jury manipulation behind the scenes of the networks in Cannes. However, the same is unlikely to apply to the admittedly highly guilty looking pigs. GoSee still believes in innocent until proven guilty. The same goes for the advertising agency – go ahead and call us naïve if you like.

The photos we have attached are courtesy of Pippa Bhatt of Crossroads Films, London. She didn’t hesitate to introduce us to lots of great creatives. Frankie, ‘Legend’ Antoinette, Jodie, Clara, Roopak, Stephan, Julia, Carl, Evelyn ..... a very, very jolly and down-to-earth circle. We can’t wait to visit them in London very soon.

However France didn’t totally loose out as a host country of course and BETC Paris scored a home run with the really superb and slightly melancholic advert ‘The Bear’ for pay TV channel Canal+. They were honoured with a Grand Prix in the 'Film Craft Lions' category. Long live Cannes!
