Thorsten Weiss : the make-up artist works for jewellery designer Hannah Martin, VOGUE, LOVECAT, STERN, motion pictures for Fly16x9 and his personal tips for Chelsea on GoSee.

GoSee met make-up artist Thorsten Weiss in New York, who kick-started his career in Cologne and finally found his final destination after stops in Berlin and Paris in the American metropolis.

Thorsten has worked successfully with and for international brands, magazines and photographers such as Jürgen Teller, Spike Jonze, Nick Knight, Björk and Jonathan Meese. Apart from his photography productions and beauty spots, he is also a beauty editor and producer for online platform Fly16x9, where he turns the aesthetics of high gloss magazines into moving imagery.

What is his current project you ask? “In the last few weeks, I have been spending some time upstate in Woodstock. We had a magical shoot with Dan Martensen and we also produced the new campaign for talented jewellery designer Hannah Martin from London. Furthermore, I realised a production with stylist Beth Fenton for a VOGUE fashion special with Boo George for the Palmer Harding Label.

I also participated in several shoots with photographer Damon Baker and the incredible talented young stylist Bret Bailey for LOVECAT MAGAZINE as well as a STERN fashion special with Agyness Deyn. I produced the cover story for the December issue of VOGUE BRASIL with Alessandra Ambr'osio as well as a cover story for MODA MAGAZINE with Eric Guillemain.”

And where would one meet the New Yorker of choice ? “ I live in the wonderful West Village and enjoy hanging out in Soho and Tribeca, where I tend to sip a few drinks or have a snack at Smith and Mills. Opposite my place, you can find the cellar bar Little Branch on Leroy Street corner with 7th Ave, which kind of reminds me of Berlin almost. The Hudson Clearwater, a delicious restaurant hiding away behind a green door on Hudson corner Morton Street is the best place to meet friends and catch up on the latest gossip.”

You should also keep your Thursday evenings free if you fancy taking a look at the latest artists and inspirations on a gallery tour in Chelsea. The openings provide a great overview of the trends of the current art scene, without the need to go to a museum.

The Lower East Side is the perfect getaway for Saturday Night and it has a more underground vibe than the more traditional Chelsea galleries. The Standard Grill is also a lot of fun and make sure you stop for a drink in the Boom Boom Room, the Penthouse Bar of the Standard Hotel sporting a breathtaking view over the whole West Side.”

We are pleased to show a selection of his works here on GoSee, plus an interview with online magazine THE AVANT/GARDE DIARIES. The Digital Portrait Magazine, initiated by Mercedes-Benz, is a regular publication dedicated to personal statements on and about the avant-garde movement.
