VDW Award : the first trailer of 20 as a sneak preview on GoSee

The 23 October will once again see the VDW awards ceremony at the Schauspiel Frankfurt, where 18 trophies will be awarded to the crème de la crème of German advertising film.

Following the admission of the Confederation of German Post- and Advertising Production (VDW) to the Allianz Deutscher Produzenten – Film & Fernsehen, this year's contest includes the brand new fifth category: ‘Advertising’ by the Produzentenallianz.

For the ninth time, the VDW AWARD will honour the best creative individual performances in the following categories: direction, script, camera, editing, visual effects, animation, make-up, styling, set design, sound design, cast and music. Each winner will be awarded a ‘Hatto’. Furthermore, the best national, international and student ad films, as well as the most exceptional productions of the categories (as introduced last year) viral film, crossmedia & best use of media and visual media, microsite and guerilla are also honoured.

The underlying concept of the VDW AWARD, that is, the focussing of individual creative performances in the field of ad film production, may very well be unique in Germany, says Florian Sigl, spokesman of the Produktallianz ‘Advertising’ category.

Thus, the Produktallianz continues the renowned contest’s success story, Sigl elaborates. Once more, the claim to fame of the VDW AWARD is reflected in the motto of the contest: ‘Handmade’, meaning scribbled, written, designed, built, tailored, styled and made-up, filmed, cut and composed.

“Fond of detail, yet always keeping the perspective on the big picture – those are our heroes”, says Torsten Levermann, head of the Produktallianz's ‘Advertising’ division: “We awarding artists with an overwhelming passion, which is integral to a good idea becoming a brilliant spot, inspiring everyone involved.”

Over a thousand advertising films for TV and cinema are produced in Germany each year, most of which gain international recognition. Since 2002, the VDW AWARD has honoured artistic quality in unusual commercial film projects and simultaneously puts the involved parties in the spotlight.

The jury consists of (among others) Andreas Fuss, CEO of GoSee member SÜDLICH-T : I had lots of fun judging the animations. The range of submissions was incredibly versatile, including some pretty striking spots. I hope, the quality of German TV advertising film will continue to increase in the coming year and I am now keeping my fingers crossed for my favourites.”

Art buyer and GoSee member MARION WALTER was part of the illustrious jury as well and judged the ‘Casting’ category. “One can look forward to the final selection shown at the VDW Award. Unfortunately, I will be on production in LA and Buenos Aires for ESPRIT and OTTO. But I am sure that I'll be able to read up on the winners here on GoSee.”
