Vienna calling! 12 festival for fashion and photography from 29/5–5/6/2012. The campaign by Elke Silvia Krystufek. GoSee presents the fashion- and photography- packed programme...

The festival directors, Ulrike Tschabitzer-Handler and Andreas Oberkanins comment ‘one of the key factors that sets the Festival for Fashion & Photography apart from other fashion events is its ability to discover young talents and its platform, providing a playground for fashion and photography for the very same talents. A new generation keeps pushing into the spotlight and it infuses the Austrian fashion and photography landscape with fresh ideas and creative input’.

Last year, the spectacular image campaign was realised by Erwin Wurm and Elfie Semotan. This year, internationally acclaimed artist Elke Silvia Krystufek and renowned fashion photographer Maria Ziegelböck continue to cover the exciting rendezvous of art and fashion within the public sphere. The video and campaign motifs are available for your viewing pleasure here on GoSee.

Now before we embark to Vienna, here are a handful of hints, exciting exhibitions and projects for the foreseeable future. In case you are itching to find out the winners of the awards (including the UNIT F EDITORIALAWARD powered by GoSee), now worries we will cover it all very soon …

From the 29th of May 2012, each purchase at the 12 Festival Guerrilla store at LISKA, Hohen Markt will be rewarded with one out of three limited edition tote bags! They feature a printed extract of a poem that deals with fashion in Arab countries by Elke Silvia Krystufek, the foundation for this year's festival campaign.

365 The Fox House is located in the 7th Viennese quarter and is a major photography hotspot during the festival week. Young photographers will take over the temporary office space, several shops and a project space and offer a refreshing take on fashion through their exciting exhibition projects.

Display by Mario Kiesenhofer

Mario Kiesenhofer uses life-sized photographs as the basis for his work. The result is a body of work that uses photography to display and apply jewellery, extending the nature of the initial foundation piece to become a sculpture in its own right. At the same time, the presentation of jewellery and fashion at the point of sale is renegotiated and reinterpreted.

NAMIDA - by Edwina Hörl and Andreas Seibert
NAMIDA (Tears) is dedicated to all the people, who had to suffer through the loss of relatives or friends and still have to endure the repercussions of the gigantic earthquake in East Japan and the Tsunami that followed. It's a fashion project that was created especially for Japan, discussing and evaluating how catastrophes such as these can leave gaping and empty spaces in the lives of affected people. The NAMIDA project was photographed by Swiss photographer Andreas Seibert, who lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. He took the pictures and subsequently reassembled them in a collage. The result inevitably features gaps and intervals, which make the pictures appear incomplete and therefore relate to the core experience of all people, who were affected by the events. Edwina Hörl intentionally chose to exclude professional models from the project and just throws on her clothes herself.

2/6/2012, opening 19:00
Impossible Project Space Vienna, Kaiserstraße 74,1070 Vienna

Statements and critical viewpoints on fashion.

Reality Dip - by Markus Karkhof and Ronja Stahl
Reality Dip emerges from the oscillating relationship of two different spheres, both of which were created in the public sphere itself. The construction and mutual deconstruction of the spheres illuminates and discusses the function of fashion as a reflective medium for social structure and at the same time endeavours to discover the relationship between reality and simulation.
4/6/2012, starts 19:30
Donaukanallände at Franzensbrücke (below Schüttelstraße), 1020 Vienna

GON
in collaboration with Philipp Friedrich and Weiwei Xu
African houses and their painted exterior walls inspire the A/W 2012 collection by GON. Landscapes, the human body, flora and fauna in turn inspired the shape and surface design of these dwellings.

The collection addresses both the site-specific mode of construction plus the nature of the exteriors and surfaces – the 'fashion' of the buildings so to speak.

The project is presented as an installation, presented as a hut inside the shop. The collection and all other fashion items on sale in the store make up the house's façade.

WOOD WOOD, Zollergasse 29,1070 Vienna

2013 - by Felix Groefler and Stefan Köll
It seems that everyone is pretty worked up about the Mayan calendar and its alleged Armageddon predication – all the more reason for Felix Groefler and Stefan Köll to present their (quite ironic) vision of the future in a collaborative exhibition, the year 2013 to be precise – one year after the apocalypse. What would happen if things would really go haywire by the end of the year and nothing stays as it is?
