Young Director Awards : from Drama Queens, to Arctic Sun and Graffiti in public toilets

The opener of this year’s awards ceremony of the popular Young Director Awards is already wonderfully bizarre. GoSee is pleased to present the Drama Queen spot as an opener by last year’s winner Rogier Hesp, which was awarded three times in 2010. This is followed by more must-see spots, which were awarded at the Advertising Film Festival on 23 June in Cannes.

CFP-E (Commercial Film Producers of Europe) hosts the Young Director Awards, in cooperation with Shots magazine. The commercials that are entered from all over the world are judged and awarded in various categories.

‘Interruption’, a Danish film by Adam Bonke was awarded first place in the European Broadcast category, whilst ‘Arctic Sun’ by director Samir Mallal came first in the Non-European Broadcast category.

The jury headed by CFP-E President Francois Chilot was very strict when it came to marking. For example, there was no Gold for the ‘Non-European Film School’ category, Silver was awarded to the American ‘Canon - Trigger Happy’ film by Saman Keshavarz.

Best ‘European Web Film’ was awarded to ‘Choose A Different Ending’ by Simon Ellis, followed by French Anti-Aids spot ‘Graffiti’ by director Yoaun Lemoine, which was met with a huge outburst of applause in the auditorium. GoSee FILM presents this and other must-see spots by the French director.

There were of course plenty of overlaps with other competitions. For example, the Halston A/W 2009 English fashion film by Nezar Khamal was awarded best European Branded Shortfilm. The spot was also presented at the New Director Showcase von Saatchi & Saatchi.

Following the highly entertaining presentation of the film screenings, we all hit the beach for after drinks on the beach. The newcomer directors were deservedly celebrated with canapés and rosé wine and courted by producers from all over the world.
