Darius Ramazani : GOLDEN ARROW – A Moment Magazine's love letter to South Africa

This summer South Africa fever gripped the whole world. Agency head Sven Ruhs and photographer Darius Ramazani were already fascinated by the Cape country before football fever had even kicked off.

They provide a critical, yet loving view of South Africa in the new GOLDEN ARROW – A Moment Magazine.

South Africa is of course so much more than this year’s World Cup host. The magazine presents its readers with moving stories, intense portraits and powerful photos; an overview of the exotic and versatile country on the Cape of Good Hope. And all this without any advertising.

Editor Sven Ruhs, CEO of the Stuttgart-based Süden agency, initiated the magazine project. He shares his passion for South Africa with Darius. He felt it was particularly important that his articles for GOLDEN ARROW – A Moment Magazine should communicate the appeal of a country with a moving past and an exciting present.

Darius Ramazani shot elaborate spreads for GOLDEN ARROW – A Moment Magazine. He has spent many years travelling to South Africa, a prize advertising production location, to realise photo shoots.

On his travels, the Berlin-based photographer fell in love with the country in person. He now wishes to create images that go beyond the usual backdrops and clichés of South Africa, and capture the locals, devoting equal attention to heir problems and passions.

In addition to portraits of artists, musicians and people on the streets, he also documents desperate residential areas in derelict townships, for example in his ‘City Views’ photo series.

It is quite a significant dig at the South African cliché as depicted in advertising. His www.worldcup-southafrica.de website presents additional impressive views beyond the famed advertising locations.
