Anette Blase : CONTEMPORARY RUG ART by JAN KATH

Lars LANGEMEIER photographed CONTEMPORARY RUG ART by JAN KATH for the new ERASED CLASSIC catalogue. The Oktober Kommunikationsdesign agency was responsible for the catalogue’s aesthetics and Claudine Schneider joined forces with Lars for the post production.

Thanks to the good communication between the agency, client and photographer, each individual location was quickly found in Germany. The photographer’s special equipment was positioned in the most angular spaces and hence provided light even in dark spots.

Jan Kath’s collections juxtapose the traditional handcrafts of the Himalayas with modern, almost minimalist design. A synthesis which results in unusual pieces. Jan primarily developed a fascination of hand-woven rugs through his family: two generations before him had already participated in the rug trade. So it came as no coincidence that he spent several years working in places as diverse as the Orient and the Himalayas. Since 1996 he has been producing his vision of contemporary rug art with a manufacturer in Nepal.
