Dean WEST spent two years working on the ‘In Pieces’ series – profoundly stylised and yet minimalist American landscapes. And it was worth the wait too. This project was created in collaboration with New York artist Natha Sawaya, whose meticulously shaped sculptures were seamlessly integrated in West’s work.
Closer inspection reveals that every image depicts an object entirely made of LEGO bricks. Each image calls for the viewer to take a closer look and to find out exactly what is real and what is made of LEGO. This in turn makes one question both the depicted world as well as the world that surrounds us.
British icons like Vivienne Westwood, Jamie Oliver and David Nicholls were asked to share their favourite places in London. Nick BALLON captured this on a large format camera for a special issue of SPIEGEL. In his adopted role as tour guide, Nick presents areas full of life, architectural curiosities, the pleasure of sipping a beer in a park at sunset and the crowning glory of a midnight movie screening in one of Britain’s oldest cinemas.
David MAURER photographed a campaign for HESSISCHEN RUNDFUNK. He captured radio hosts in environments and situations that reflect their respective programme contents.
Images include Sven Lorig, who presents antique show ‘Dings vom Dach’ (stuff from the attic), sitting in a loft surrounded by people searching for buried treasure in countless boxes. Every image is bathed in beautiful, natural light and shows how HR accompanies people in their everyday lives.
At first glance KNOTAN’s editorial for DIGITAL TEMPLE MAGAZINE looks like another contribution to the ‘good looking people that look cool’ category. However, he managed to capture something personal and nuanced as always. Indeed, Knotan is an expert in providing his beautiful photographs with a certain depth.
Martin W. MAIER was commissioned to photograph the new album cover for HAUDEGEN. The musician duo was photographed in a grand hall dressed in fencing outfits, adorned with rock music iconography. The German rock stars are still incredibly successful - their last album sold over 70,000 copies. Their new album titled ‘En Garde’ is out in September and is accompanied by a large-scale PR campaign. This includes the naming of a McDonalds burger the ‘McHaudegen’.
A few months ago we were allowed a first peek at Lutz HILGER’s VILLEROY & BOCH photo series with Michelin star chef Terje Ness, as well as the final selection. The series provides a look behind the scenes in the kitchen where Terje seemingly effortlessly creates his culinary masterpieces, which are then served in a perfect Villeroy & Boch dining room.
AUTOMOTIVE LIGHTING commissioned Robert WESTRICH to shoot their 100-year anniversary campaign. The images will be used on the website, as well as on the company’s banners and invitations. The concept: what appears to be a sunrise at the end of a windy rural road is in fact the glow of approaching headlights. The image suggests security, with Automotive Lighting safely guiding the driver safely to their destination.
Bobbie Gordon’s emotional pop music is currently being met with great acclaim in the UK. It all started when Bobbie provided the background vocals for various greats in the music industry, for example Rick Astley and Adele, before actively pursuing her own solo career. Chris DODD accompanied her early days, capturing Bobbie’s contagious charm and personality for a PR campaign. The black and white portraits embody the same cool and yet passionate temperament that is inherent in Bobbie’s voice.
GQ commissioned Julia FULLERTON-BATTEN to photograph images to accompany an article on suicide chat rooms. The series presents an innocent young girl, who has fallen victim to the dark side of the Internet. With her back to the viewer, she has a laptop in her hands, its light glowing ethereally as the sirens’ song leads her into greater danger.
