Christa Klubert Photographers : Thomas Struth portraits for the FINANCIAL TIMES, dark Lolita spread in PAP magazine, Mini visit for MINI magazine and self portraits of the stars

Lutz HILGERS was chosen to snap some pictures of renowned photographer and fellow Düsseldorf resident Thomas Struth for the Financial Times. The portraits show the artist utterly at home in his office, a space which blurs the lines between work and home.

A bed is discreetly set up in the corner; we see Struth accompanied by his pet dog and surrounded by books and records as well as archives and set models. Lutz shows us that play is obviously an essential part of work for Struth, an ethos you can’t help feeling a little envious of.

Everyone knows the standard image of Lolita – the sunbathing lollipop-sucking teenage seductress with love heart sunglasses. But in PAP magazine, KNOTAN shows us a darker take on Nabokov’s classic. This is Lolita at the end of the book, when things have turned sour, and a life on the run has taken its toll.

A feeling of seediness and lost innocence runs through every image: most obviously in the accusing eyes of his dark-haired model, but also in the little plastic Elvis which dangles in the rain-spattered car window. This is the end of the road.

Tillmann FRANZEN’s next port of call is in the MINI Factory where we see a modern Mini being transformed into a racecar.

The beauty and confident personality of the Mini is obvious in every one of Franzen’s photos. It almost seems to be aware of the trophies that line the walls of the factory, learning about its pedigree and what it has to aim for once it hits the racetrack. Shot for MINI magazine, it’s an intimate series that will definitely set the hearts of all car enthusiasts racing.

On the complete opposite end of the scale, Denis ROUVRE’s ongoing ‘Automaton’ series was in full effect once again at the Cannes Film Festival.

Denis’ set-up allows film stars to reveal whatever side of themselves they wish – they walk into a specially designed photo booth, strike a pose of their fancy and choose when to press the button. The results are always surprising. However, Morgan Freeman is obvs the coolest.
