Bernstein & Andriulli : Erwin OLAF - new editorial work for CITY and ELLE magazine
Photographer Erwin OLAF has a large fan community in both the art and editorial sectors, as well as in the advertising scene. His photos cast a tender and often humorous glance at our world which oscillates between poverty and despair.
Here are some of the latest editorials by the Dutch photographer. The first is for CITY magazine with Leigh Lezark, an American DJane and occasional model, better known as a member of New York DJ trio The Misshapes. The beautiful Leigh graces both the cover and editorial pages inside the mag.
The second editorial whisks us off to Amsterdam to the luxurious Amstel Hotel. This is where Erwin took photos of an extravagant party with glamorous people in just-as-glamorous costumes for ELLE. The story is entitled "Lof der Zotheid", or in English “The Praise of Folly” after the most well-known work by Dutch author Erasmus. Erasmus dedicated the book to his friend Thomas Morus. It is an early plea of the writer, who was born in 1470, for intelligent opinions, against omnipresent misbeliefs and superstitions.
In autumn Aperture published a new book featuring 65 photographs from Olaf’s "Hope, Grief and Rain series". And on 6 February Olaf’s exhibition will be opening at the Photo Museum in Antwerp, Belgium and will run until 7 June. If you can’t wait until then you still have time to visit the Museum of Photography in Den Haag, where “Rain Hope Grief Fall 2004-2008” will be on show until 18 January. Until 4 January the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, NC, USA will be showing his "Still Living; Structure, Surface and Expression" exhibition.
