Claudia Bitzer : Harry Weber captures people, Steffen Schrägle landscapes, Christian Schmidt cars and Claudia Bitzer will attend the UPdate Hamburg

Bert Brecht once commented “humans are the most beautiful thing to roam the earth”. Harry Weber has sought to capture the wise poet’s words in photos. As with for example the bin man, Harry’s own contribution to the ZEIT website’s “German Scenes” competition. His photo responds to the question posed by the magazine: “The German Republic is turning 60. What does it actually look like today?” His authentic eye and street photographs were a hit and he was promptly roped into the project by the ZEIT editorial team.

Harry went on to shoot a portrait of Berliner painter Jens Kunik. This was born from the painter’s wish to not present an everyday image of himself, but rather be shown in relation to his work.

Finally Harry returned to the basis of all his photographs, portraits of everyday people. They interact at Berlin’s crossroads. Their expressions, gestures, coincidences. Filigree fleeting moments that pass the viewer by. Moments that would be over at the bat of an eyelid – if Harry weren’t to capture them in his pictures.

Steffen Schrägle teamed up with Lukkien from Holland to undertake an extended journey to the other side of the planet to shoot backplates for CGI productions. The first chapter was New Zealand, where he managed to shoot several grand landscapes with the help of local producer Amanda Jenkins. The results were in turn quickly snapped up for four new CGI motifs featuring a Nissan. More pictures will follow shortly.

To make the most of his return trip, Steffen stopped at Singapore where he pursued his second speciality, Architecture Photography. Additional photos, which deal with the South Asian boom town’s urban life, were realised with the support of Nomifilms.

Christian Schmidt travelled to the USA yet again for a new LEXUS campaign. He shot the RX 450 in California; in between modern architecture on the one hand, and typical American family homes on the other. The agency was Team One. The post production was once again carried out by RECOM, Stuttgart.

Those that wish to see more of Claudia Bitzer and her photographers should make a note of the UPdate Hamburg on 9 October 2009 at the old stock exchange. They are looking forward to welcoming you to their stand, catching up with contacts, making new acquaintances and experiencing an inspirational day together.
