Hahnemühle : Farbwerte – Colour Values project exhibition by Robert Eysoldt with pictures by Frank Roesner printed on Hahnemuehle FineArt Daguerre Canvas

The “Farbwerte – SchwarzRotGold“ (colour values – redblackgold) project deals with the question of German identity and the various forms of its depiction. Project initiator Robert Eysoldt challenged 60 designers from all over the world to incorporate the German flag into artworks. A total of 100 exhibits has been produced. 40 people in fashion, economics and culture were photographed with the German flag afterwards.

From 1 until 11 October 2009, these portraits will be on show as large format fine art prints on Hahnemühle Daguerre Canvas at Münze Berlin. The exhibition is provocative, it is a playful approach to the German flag. In addition to this, plans are in the pipelines for several exhibitions in the run up to the EXPO 2010 in China.

Here are same statements from the participants:

“During the 2006 World Cup, as we wrapped ourselves in our own, clean (the Black-Red-Gold flag was the first thing the Nazis eliminated and banned) flag, the world let out a sigh of relief. This re-established German tradition lets all of us – even me – sleep better at night!” Tim Renner

“Other nations have a different relationship to their flags, than the generation of Germans that I belong to. In “Stern” magazine we see flag-covered coffins of the fallen. A young boy touches the flag, which covers his father’s coffin. He is allowed to take it home with him…. The flag hides the death. A hero’s death, which the flag belongs to, wants to suggest to us that one can die this death and continue living afterwards. It has been fashionable for German politicians to present the national flag behind their desks. The unconscious uneasiness is hidden behind a European flag which is placed beside it. I am sceptical of what flags are hiding.”  Wolfgang Nowak

Photographer Frank Rösner on his cooperation with Hahnemühle : “I have been printing all of my fine art prints on Hahnemühle media for years. These are usually Photo Rag, FineArt Baryta and, as with this project, also Daguerre Canvas. The quality papers are finely tuned building stones of my workflow, the same goes for RIP, colour profiles and inks. I opted for Daguerre Canvas for this exhibition in particular because of its convincing contrast and colour values, as well as the robust stretch characteristic.”
