‘Sculpture is the most sophisticated of all art forms’, Rene Ricard writes in the introduction to Bob Recine's book 'Alchemy of Beauty', ‘it is no exaggeration to say, what Bob Recine creates from hair is most definitely a form of sculpture.’ Bob Recine's impressive book features drawings, collages and photographs, all of which provide a great insight into and portrayal of the hair artist.
Hairstylist Bob Recine approaches the head as an armature for sculpture
The NY-born avant-garde hairstylist approaches the head as an armature for sculpture with an haute couture touch and enjoys the admiration of many international fans. Clients such as Lady Gaga daren’t leave the house without Bob and his team working their magic.
Initially, Bob's calling was to become an artist – before he finally honed his craft alongside world famous hairdresser Jean Louis David in Paris – where he continued to improve his craft to the utmost perfection.
Yet, New York proved to be the stronger influence – he returned after four years abroad, armed with a portfolio bursting at the seams. And his reputation paved the way for his success: he has worked on covers and editorials for all the world's glam-zines, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, W, Allure, Vanity Fair, i-D and V magazine.
Mario Sorrenti, Annie Leibovitz, Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier, Paolo Roversi, Mikael Jansson, Terry Richardson, Mert Alas & Marcus Piggot.... a nigh infinite number of star photographers appreciate his congenial talent. Check out the video.
