Previously a successful model, Ellen von Unwerth made an early decision to see life through the other side of the lens. She was equally as successful with this and is one of the world’s most triumphant fashion photographers today. Her usually slightly out of focus photographs, in black and white, as well as in colour are coveted internationally.
In her “Fräulein” book, published by TASCHEN, she presents her visions of cult beauty idols in provocative poses, these include none other than Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss, Vanessa Paradis, Britney Spears, Eva Mendes, Lindsay Lohan, Dita von Teese, Adriana Lima, Carla Bruni, Eva Green, Christina Aguilera, Monica Bellucci and many, many more.
The photos are erotically charged, the Fräuleins being not all too shy. Her subjects are teasingly sexy and provocative, but never objectified.
These images were shot over the last 15 years and many are previously unpublished. The book is limited to 1,500 numbered copies, each signed by the photographer. The title is also available in Art Editions A and B, each with one of two photographic prints by Ellen von Unwerth.
The Michael Hoppen Gallery, London is showing an exhibition of the most beautiful images in collaboration with the publishers and the photographer.
