The photographer couple Jenny Gage and Tom Betterton are renowned for their narrative and cinematic style. In their creative realms between documentation and fiction the duo have portrayed the likes of Kate Winslet and Uma Thurman, their work has been published in Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.
In their ‘Upstairs, Downstairs & Outside’ they capture intimate moments of the various stages of undress, indeed the nudity of three women.
The realisation of the project took a whole year and resulted in a book with images that subtly provoke, the sensual textures of which recall the pages of a private journal.
Gage and Betterton took the photographs in and around their house, located in Brooklyn, New York. Perhaps their concept of seemingly highly intimate photographs stems from their own constellation: the duo is not just a working partnership, but also a couple in their private lives. Ever since they first set eyes on each other.
‘Upstairs, Downstairs & Outside’ presents a collection of images, which intensely plays with our fascination with the female form. The observer simultaneously experiences a close connection and collaboration between the artists and their subject.
The unique book is available in stores from 31 March. Those that can’t wait that long, can immediately and exclusively receive their copy from Clic Gallery, New York.
