Vanishing Landscapes - the last images of a vanishing world
Landscapes as we know them today, will soon vanish from the face of the earth. Global warming makes the arctic ice melt, the emission of CO2 and the slashing and burning minimize the forests, rivers are dying due to industrial waste, and the greens make room for cities following an increase in population.
How to photo artist respond to this threat ? Are they glorifying nature or do they want to educate the observer ? Various points of view by internationally renowned photographers such as Robert Adams, Edward Burtysnky, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Joel Sternfeld, Thomas Struth and many more are faced off against each other: Ranging from the homage to the maritime landscapes of the romantics to the neutral documentation of a landscape's change over time.
The publication “Verschwindende Landschaften (Vanishing Landscapes) won the CORINE 2008 – Bilderwelten. The CORINE international book awards ceremony will be held in Munich on November 4, for the eighth time in a row and will also be broadcast on national German TV.
CORINE, the international book award honours both national and international authors in nine categories. The CORINE winners receive a unique prize, manufactured in the world famous porcelain factory in Nymphenburg.
