An Athlete In Tights - Italian ballett star Roberto Bolle poses for Bruce Weber's camera
A new picture book titled “ Roberto Bolle : An Athlete In Tights”, presents Bruce Weber’s three year collaboration with the Italian ballet star.
Roberto was born in Casale Monferrato, Italy. Of very young age already, he was accepted at the ballet school of the Milan Scala. Rudolf Nureyev was the first to spot Roberto's talent and chose him for the role of Tadzio in Death in Venice.
In 1996, after a staging of Romeo and Juliet and only two years after joining the theatre ensemble, Roberto was promoted to Primoballerino by Elisabetta Teraburst, the current had of the Corp de Ballet.
Ever since, he has been dancing in countless leading roles in many contemporary and classic ballet pieces and worked as a guest artist in the most renowned ballet ensembles in the world. His reputation has skyrocketed over the last few years; Roberto was the first Italian to be accepted as Primoballerino at the American Ballet Theatre.
In his monograph, Bruce Weber captured the spectacular combination of art and physicality of the dance phenomenon, the grace and goodliness which hypnotises audiences across the globe.
The picture book (127 Duplex pictures and 24 colour pictures) consists of original photographs and texts by Bruce Weber. Original texts by Roberto Bolle, texts by D.H. Lawrence and Pier Paolo Passolini as well as images by Paul Cadmus and Jeremiah Goodman
