GoSee Tip: Roxanne Lowit - j'adore! backstage Dior, the glamorous world of Haute Couture - photo book and limited edition

She’s had almost all of them! From Andy Warhol, to Salvador Dali, to Bono, to Yves Saint-Laurent, to Johnny Depp, to Scarlett Johansson and George Clooney, to mention but a few… She shoots for luxury brands such as Moët & Chandon, designers such as Emporio Armani and Vivienne Westwood love her, and her work is often featured in the likes of Vogue, Elle, Tatler and V.

However, Roxanne Lowit isn’t only well known for her incomparable celebrity photography. The star photographer’s backstage shots at all the big fashion shows saw her secure a twinkling space in the fashion cosmos.

She is particularly fond of John Galliano’s creations for Dior. The Gibraltarian-English designer reinterprets the roots of the Dior House, holding opulent fashion shows along the way. Roxanne Lowit has been documenting his Dior shows backstage with the models, clothes rails and bubbly stylists ever since they first begun. Still, the Chef de Cabine and their team of hair and make-up artists, also deserve a big-up as they ensure the hairstyles and make-up are picture perfect for each and every show.

teNeues Verlag have now published a must-have photo book, which provides a glamorous glimpse behind the great fashion house curtains. The foreword is by John Galliano and Suzy Menkes, followed by texts by authors such as Simon Doonan, Valerie Steele and Jean-Jacques Naudet.

Roxanne Lowit work has already been exhibited in solo shows at the world’s most renowned institutions, including Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Her work has also been on show in New York, Paris, Monte Carlo, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf and Berlin. Roxanne’s pieces have been taken up in the permanent collections of the Kobe Fashion Museum and have been displayed in countless group exhibitions, for example at the Gagosian Gallery and Art Basel Miami.

She originally studied Textile Design at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) New York. Her boyfriend at the time gave her a camera as a present and she has been releasing the shutter ever since. Perhaps if he hadn’t have done so we would now know her as a painter. A painter of stars.
