James Dean : A Different Icon. the rebel and fashion - at The Kennedys Museum Berlin
It is not difficult to guess what 'The Kennedys' Museum in Berlin is all about. However, the capital’s Showroom Days sees the institution present itself in an appropriately fashionable light, presenting us with aspects of an icon who has never been one to be associated with the world of fashion in the first place: James Dean.
The actor's cult status has been untouched for the past five decades. He is still regarded as the prototypical rebel, dissident, secretive and provocative, sometimes bordering on the unfathomable, yet always formative.
The focus of the exhibition is his exceptional sense of fashion through which he consciously distanced himself from the masses in the America of the 1950s.
The show comprises many well-known pictures, including photographs by Dennis Stock, Phil Stern and Roy Schatt - it is tempting to approach the original from a different viewpoint.
Wide, high-waisted sta-prest trousers, flat leather boots, chunky knitwear jumpers? Let's see whether we will see some of this being reflected at Berlin Fashion Week next door.
James Dean would have celebrated his 80th birthday on the 8th of February. However, he will remain young for all eternity, immortalised in popular culture.
