What do a former department store, an unused opera workshop and a disused bank building have in common? All of them were temporarily transformed into extraordinary worlds of photographic experience and have enthused more than 100,000 photography fans in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Hamburg since spring last year. Shortly, these sites will be joined by JACK IN THE BOX, a cultural centre in a former freight terminal area in Cologne. On 11 September, the fifth PHOTOGRAPHY PLAYGROUND will be opening its gates and, once again, renowned artists could be won over for this unique art and photography project by Olympus. These include, among others, the French designer and scenographer Arnaud Lapierre, the New York-based artist Joe Fig, SQUIDSOUP, an international group of artists, scientists and designers, as well as the Irish street artist Maser. And of course – in contrast to most other art exhibitions – taking photos at the Cologne PHOTOGRAPHY PLAYGROUND is expressly allowed. Visitors to the event can borrow Olympus OM-D and PEN cameras for free and thus perfectly equipped discover the 5000 m² playground.
