We are looking forward to meeting Claire Young, production leader / head of print & art buying at creative agency MOTHER LONDON as a judge at our GoSeeAwards. A mini Quest for you here on GoSee

The agency with the nice name MOTHER is the biggest independent creative agency in the United Kingdom, with offices in London, New York (2003) and Buenos Aires (2005). Their very likeable agency philosophy is ’To make great work, have fun and make a living. Always in that order’. Mark Waites, Stef Calcraft, Libby Brockhoff and Robert Saville founded Mother agency. Today they employ over 400 staff in their three locations, who work on great projects (that are still lots of fun). Once of them is Claire Young, who has been working for Mother since 2008 and as head of print since 2014. We are very much looking forward to welcoming Claire Young as a judge at our GoSeeAwards in Berlin at UPDATE14 – and would like to take this opportunity to introduce her with a mini GoSee Quest.

How did you first come into working with photography? I've always loved photography, and one of my first jobs was working in the production department of a large format photography lab. We printed work for a lot of photographers, as well as the National Gallery and other big galleries. From there I was utterly sold and knew that I wanted to build my career in production and photography.

You have 16 years of experience in advertising, what has been one of your highlights to date? Working at Mother is a highlight, everyday is different and a great challenge.

Can you tell us a bit about your most memorable production? The HTC Freefall Fashion shoot, was definitely all of the above! We shot the stills and TVC whilst freefalling through the sky at 180mph.

What are you currently working on? I have some input on all of the still shoots taking place at Mother, and I also manage my own productions. I am currently working on x2 Castello campaigns and lining up the next.

Where do you get your inspiration? From life! You can find inspiration everywhere!

As an art buyer you view a lot of photography and portfolios. What words of advice would you give to young budding photographers that want to catch your eye? I am a big fan of face to face meetings, I love to hear the story behind an image, so I try to meet photographers as much as possible, therefore I would always encourage people to aim for a meeting. A well put together folio is of course essential, and a knowledge of our clients and their work is also helpful.

We are delighted you will be joining us at our UPDATE salon in Berlin. What is your relationship to Berlin? I'm really happy to be taking part, and looking forward to visiting Berlin again - I have only been once before when I stayed in my friend's apartment last year. I loved it, so I am excited to get the opportunity to visit again!
