Designing means for STIEBICH & RIETH to work in three dimensions. No computers, no sketches, everything is built in leather from the beginning. The leather comes from  Italy, France and Spain and is vegetable tanned. Only natural ingredients are used, such as chestnut roots, tannins, fruits or mimosa. A lot of time and skills are needed to produce this supreme kind of leather. A leather that ages beautifully and maintains the qualities of its animal origin. All seams are prepunched to achieve the most and precise perfect stitching. Due to the thickness of the leather the two-needle-technique is used, completely done by hand.

The waxed yarn guarantees a maximum of stability and permanency. All metal pieces are made of pure solid brass, a durable product with a beautiful finish. Each bag passes through many checks before it is finished, which guarantees a perfect product.

STIEBICH & RIETH is a brand created in 2012 by the Hamburg-based designers Julia Rieth and Detlef Stiebich. Both have experience working for and with several major fashion companies.

With STIEBICH & RIETH they returned to the roots of design: working with hands. In their words: „This gives us the chance to check and recheck every step along the way to see if it looks and feels right. Every time we find a good solution, we go even further and see where the experiment takes us.“

This leads to modern, sleek shapes, using traditional saddle making techniques. 
Every stitch and every seam has a function. The result is a reduced, cool and sharp signature, timeless modernity.
