A great deal of comfort does not require a great deal of space. Fritz Tower unites the seeming contrasts of quality and space in highly efficient micro apartments.

The 266 apartments in FRITZ TOWER offer attractive micro living space in three variations: Studios, 1-room apartments, and 2-room apartments. The interiors of these modern homes fulfill the requirements of residents who want maximum comfort, service and freedom – in a minimum of space.

Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk and Peter Joehnk are the interior designers behind Fritz Tower.

What are the unique challenges in designing smaller apartments?

Residents should feel truly at home in FRITZ TOWER. At the same time, they also want to be inspired and surprised. So the same design rules apply as in hotels. Micro-apartments are the greatest challenge. We have to achieve the same multifunctio- nality in a smaller space, and yet we do not want to create a purely functional atmos- phere. For this reason, form is particularly important to us as we seek to fulfill resi-dents‘ expectations of a livable and stylish atmosphere.

What techniques and surprises did you use in FRITZ TOWER to maximize the space available in each apartment?

We have worked with warm, light tones to optically enlarge the space. We have also developed a concept that incorporates  adjustable and mobile furnishings. The sofa bed, for instance, both enriches the living area during the day and offers excellent sleeping comfort at night. However, during the day, it is important that the room does not look like a hotel room or long-stay apart-ment, but a cosy living room.

How would you define the philosophy that underpins the interior design concept for the micro-apartments?

Smart and versatile: In the micro-apartments we’ve designed, residents are offered high levels of comfort in a small, flexible space – regardless of whether the apartment is used by a business traveller or a weekend tourist.

Have you followed a specific interior design concept when combining materials, colors and lighting?

We’ve combined a range of materials in light, wood tones, which lends the apartments an invitingly warm and natural  appearance. Creating the right atmosphere was very important to us. Coming home from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan life, residents want a refuge. Light also plays an important role in the design of these rooms, and should be both energizing in the morning and calming in the evening. Lights, such as table lamps and standing lamps, create a range of lighting options that suit every possible situation. The kitchens’ glossy white surfaces accen-tuate this with exciting reflections, creating a pleasant contrast to the matte, light oak tones of the custom furniture.

How does your concept take into account the interests of investors with regard to the renta-bility and value enhancement?

The apartments feature high quality materials and durable surfaces. The furnishings are versatile and underscore the urban, time-less character of the rooms.
