Frankfurt-based still life photographer Michael HIMPEL photographed watch stills for the Belchen Group, named after the five Belchen mountains in the three mountain ranges of the Basel region. “The Belchenflue of the Jura, the Black Forest Belchen in Germany, and the Little, the Great and the Alsatian Belchen (French: Le Ballon d'Alsace) in the Vosges mountains. Together, these five mountains form a Celtic solar calendar. Seen from the Alsatian Belchen, the sun rises over a different Belchen on special dates: Over the Black Forest on the equinox at the beginning of spring and fall, over the Little Belchen at the beginning of summer, over the Great Belchen on May 1st, and over the Belchenflue at the beginning of winter. This makes the Belchen Group an archaic timekeeping system used by people all over the world,” Michael tells GoSee.
