“With 'Inside Japan', Roberto Badin shatters preconceived ideas about Japanese cities: crowded subways, overpopulated intersections, saturated with multicolored neon lights. Roberto Badin invites you to discover the heart of a country full of contrasting tradition and modernity. Each page is a work of art of the utmost precision. A clear vision. The masterful framing and natural light are meticulous narrators. Despite the chaos of the metropolis, Roberto Badin captures ordinary life: a quiet daily routine, true, serene, intimate and silent. Lonely at times." BENJAMIN BLANCK is an independent publisher of art and photography books.
Roberto Badin: "When I was a child growing up in Brazil in the 1970’s, most of my visual references were Japanese cartoons and television series. Japan was like a distant planet that made me dream. For me, it's a calm, silent and lonely country. Far from the “cliché” of the crowd of Shibuya that we often see. My fascination for Japan is committed to codes that govern the relations between the Japanese themselves. We feel a distance between people, That’s what I tried to convey with my images. the important thing here is the perspective and the personal point of view. I’m just bringing back what O saw. However, The framing is already a bias, a personal act that involves emotion rather than reason."
