How to go about introducing an exhibition that is all about cannibalism? The topic is quite a sensitive one, but not a taboo by any means. The title of the upcoming exhibition at the Me Collectors Room Berlin opted for a pragmatic introduction: 'All Cannibals?'
The subject is here to stay and enjoys some buzz in the world of art as of late. Therefore, there are no direct conclusions or descriptions; instead there is an emphasis on discussion, including conversations with artists Norbert Bisky and Oda Jaune.
The exhibition documents the change of specific aspects in motif such as acts of sacrifice, primal fears or prurient narratives with chilling elements, historical and contemporary works in dialogue.
100 works and about 40 international artists are part of the project. From a cultural-historical perspective, the exhibition illustrates the majority of the subject and facilitates discussions, lectures by experts and guided tours.
An artists’ discussion on the topic of cannibalism will take place on the 29th of May at 3pm and it will explore why so many artists have been excessively preoccupied with this subject in particular over the last few years, all choosing to express their interests differently.
The participants: Norbert Bisky, Oda Jaune, Sandra Vasquez de la Horra and Ralf Ziervogel, as well as curator Dr. Jeanette Zwingenberger.
